I’ve been fortunate to have two weeks off from work over this festive period, which has given me plenty of time to think about the year ahead and what I’d like to achieve during it. I usually change my mind about what I want to focus on a week by week basis, so it’ll do me good to have this list to refer back to!
My journey into Web Design went something like Junior Web Developer/Designer to Full Time Web Designer, which I feel is probably less common than some kind of Graphic Design to Web Designer route.
Because of this, I feel like I’ve missed out on some Graphic Design knowledge, which can be limiting when it comes to certain projects. I barely know my way around Photoshop, which should be a staple for any kind of designer!
I prefer to learn by doing rather than taking an online course or anything like that, so I plan on trying to create a similar kind of graphics to the ones in the image below, which are created by Jake Paul Design.
Figma, my main design tool, is perfect for the majority of work that I do but is never going to have the same power as something like Photoshop when it comes to this kind of work.
I’ll be interested to see how these new skills can then feed back into my web design work too.
This one is fairly meta, but I’d like to publish consistent blog posts here throughout the year, at least once a month or so. I have a list of topics I’ve been adding to for a while and now I’ve created this site and set up a Blog as a collection list through Webflow CMS, it’s really easy to write and publish them.
I follow lots of designers online but I haven’t come across any that predominantly focus on e-commerce, so I may try and cover topics surrounding that and give my angle on the industry.
At the time of writing this site has pretty much 0 traffic, so I’ll be interested to see if blogging regularly brings in any organic traffic by the end of the year.
I signed up for the Exeter Marathon last year, but unsurprisingly it was cancelled due to the Pandemic, both the original date in May and another rescheduled one in November.
The 2021 event has been organised for late April 2021, so fingers crossed it can go ahead this time. It was pretty demoralising last year to gradually build up to running 15 miles just for it to be cancelled!
Even if the April one does get cancelled, I’d imagine it would be rescheduled for later in the year when the vaccine rollout has had more progress, so should be able to tick it off before the end of the year. At least marathon training gives me an excuse for when I inevitably fail the goal above and don’t write many blog posts!
